ELMORE PARK 2008 AAA SYS TRACK CHAMPIONS
Congrats to our coaches and participants on their performance at the 2008 SYS Track & Field Championships.
Elmore Park garnered 34 medals and 23 place ribbons placing in a total of 48 events.
Say that’s great, well consider this, Elmore Park won the AAA SYS Championship. No mean feat.
But heres the kicker….if that was not impressive enough, 27 out of our 59 participants were Rookies.
Now this tells me a couple of things:
1. We had parental support of the kids and the program that made such a outcome possible.
2. We had coaches who worked with each other for the best team and participant outcome possible.
3. And we had a bunch if kids who showed up with no experience, a lot of heart who through raw talent & potential, parental support and great coaching pulled off a phenomenal win.
For anyone wanting to relive some of the memories from this past season you can in a couple ways.

Numerous photos from this past season as well as the Championships have been posted to the 2008 Track and Field photos link. You can find the link on the homepage as well.
We would also encourage anyone who has any photos from the 2008 season to take the time out to upload them to the site. Some memories should be shared and we would like to thank Kelanie Ware and Angela Robinson for the lion share of photo uploads to the site to this season.

To All,
I would like to take the time to say, "Thank you for your time and dedication throughout the track season"!!! It took time and patience, in which each and everyone of you have proven you have plenty of . You and our children did a F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S job in the championships. I'm so proud to be your Area Director. Remember, our Track Banquet is June 7th 3pm - 7pm at Elmore Park Middle School. Lastly, have an awesome Memorial Day weekend !!!
We would ask you to take the time out to share your positive remembrances of a phenomenal season by going to the Elmore Park Message Board and just let loose, poor it out and let our coaches, Booster Club and Directors Staff know how much they mean.
Folks, they do it for the kids and it would be wonderful for our parents, participants and everyone involved to take a moment to let them know how much what they do means.

Track pratice has begun but as always it has gotton off to a slow start due to the weather. EPP will be holding practice and continue sign-ups at practice throughout the month of March. Dates and times have been posted to the calendar on the website.
Practice times are from 5.30 to 7.30 on Mondays and Thursdays with addtional practices scheduled for Saturdays from 10-noon. Practices are being held at Elmore Park Middle School located at 6330 Althorne, Bartlett Tn. 38133. Sign-ups are open to boys and girls age 6-15. New participants must bring a COPY of their birth certificates

Congratulations to our 07 Track Team and all of our Coaches. You turned in an over the top off the chart performance setting records, winning medals and making numerous top 6 finishes in the 07 SYS Track Championships.
The total Medal and Ribbon Count stands at 52. Placing in that many events is almost unheard of. The total Medal Count stands at 12 Gold, 10 Silver and 8 Bronze alone.
SYS Record setting performances include the following teams:
8-9 Girls 3200 Meter Team
8-9 Girls 1600 Meter Team
8-9 Girls 800m Medly

07 TRACK SIGN-UPS
Its that time of year.....The 2007 Track and Field season is set to begin so start making your plans now to participate.
Sign-ups are to be held Feb 17th,24th and March 3rd from 11am to 2 pm at Milanos Pizza- 7625 Stage Rd, 38133.

The Elmore Park Track Club is a proud member Area of the Shelby Youth Sports Athletic Association. Established in 1967, Elmore Pack is celebrating its 40th year of offering safe, affordable community based after school athletic programs to the youth of the Mid-South.

TRACK AT SYS
Participation is open to both boys and girls ages 6 through 15.
March 1st is the age division cut-off.
1. Bantam Division………………......6-7 years old
2. Midget Division………………..…8-9 years old
3. Youth Division…………………....10-11 years old
4.Intermediate Division………….12-13 years old
5. Teens Division…………….....…..14-15 years old
Sign-ups, will be held begining in February with practices set to begin in March. There will be a minimum of 15 organized practices scheduled prior to the first meet.
This doesn't mean you will have to make every practice or that every practice will be held due to weather and temperture issues.
The first inter-club meet is typically held the last weekend in March and the season raps up around the second weekend of May with the finals of Grand Championships.
There will be a minimum of 5 inter-club meets scheduled during the regular season, not including the two rounds of Grand Championships.
SYS will play host to 18 track meets at various high-school sites in Memphis, Shelby County and Tipton County during the season. During Grand Championships over 700 track participants come together to compete and celebrate the conclusion of the track season.
EVENTS
Events held at a SYS track meet include, shot put, baseball throw, long jump, high jump as well as dash, relay, hurdle and distance events.

- The only restriction for participation is age – participants must be between 6 and 15 years old as of March 1st of the current year.
- A participant must compete in his/her age group and gender division.
- All participants must have their ages verified.
- A participant must participate in the Area in which he/she resides.

- Any of the following can result in a participant’s disqualification:
- Entering more than three events.
- Competing in the wrong age group.
- Aiding a participant directly or indirectly (accompanying participant to starting area, running along side participant, or being stationed at points along the track to aid or coach participant).
- Second false start.
- Interference.
- Lane infraction.
- Unsportsmanlike conduct (i.e. throwing a baton).

- No spikes or shoes designated for spikes will be allowed on the track.
- In field events, any shoes designed for turf surface sports (natural or artificial) are not allowed.
- No athlete will be allowed to compete in bare feet.
- Jewelry, sunglasses (except prescription) shall not be allowed during competition.
- Shirts must be tucked in and in uniform.

- Starting blocks are not permitted.
- Each running competitor is allowed one false start.
- A regulation baton must be used in relays. It may not be wrapped with tape.

- A participant may be excused from a field event to participate in a running event. The individual should return directly to the field event following the running event.

TRACK PARTICIPATION OFFERS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE EVEN THE NOVICE
Track at SYS offers something for everyone. With both Novice and Advanced levels of participation, each child should find something fun to do. Just about every participant is guaranteed to a least get a ribbon during each inter-club meet. At Grand Championships, gold, silver and bronze metals are awarded to the top 3 finishers while the 4th, 5th and 6th place finishers getting ribbons. Our advanced participants also compete for a shot at the SYS record book. All novice participants receive ribbons at Grand Championships. During Championships each member Area competes for the Grand Champion trophy in Small, Medium,Large and X-Large School category.
JUMP IN AND HELP-VOLUNTEER ON MEET DAY!!!!
Elmore Park is an all-volunteer organization. That means for the program to work we need the support of our membership and volunteer community. There are many volunteer opportunities available.
- Setting up the track on meet day
- Working the stop watches
- Working the flags at the corners
- Measuring for the various field events
- Meet day annoucer
For more information on how you can contribute, contact your Area Director. Elmore Park has a great tradition of volunteerism so lets do our part to keep this great "Track Record" alive and well.
THE ELMORE PARK TRACK AND FIELD SPORTS BANQUET
The Elmore Park Track Club celebrates the end of track season with a Track Banquet. At the banquet those Track participants who set SYS records as well as those who distinguished themselves by their great attitude are recognized. Each participant recieves a participantion trophy.
